Hudson Ave Studio
Hudson Ave Studio’s roots date back as far as 1993. The first incarnation of the studio happened in a basement corner of a classic suburban house in Schaumburg, IL. At the time, a young upstart musician was starting to flame his newfound passion for music, which blossomed into starting a band, and beginning to acquire the types of equipment necessary for that venture. It grew to include three Shure microphones with stands, four guitars, four amplifiers, a small keyboard and stand, and a few 1/4 inch and XLR microphone cables. The final piece was the purchase of a Tascam Porta03 Analog 4-Track Recorder.
This system was primitive, yes, but functional. Short musical demos were being recorded by the two band writing partners, with both refining the material along the way (some of which was then professionally recorded two years later,) and the entire exercise represented a young boy’s dreams and artistic expression (as well as planting entrepreneurial roots.)
Over the years, this setup has moved from apartment to apartment throughout Chicago before, during, and after college. In some cases, it was the corner of a bedroom with just guitars and mics to sustain it. It spent time in storage here and there, and in later apartments, an extra room or space would be dedicated to holding the equipment and instruments, hoping to someday be resurrected in it’s former glory. Throughout it’s time, it stayed a permanent back-burner project and ideal for it’s musician owner.
The current incarnation of this primitive studio is now residing in Hudson Ave Studio, which opened operations in June 2014. Located in historic Old Town Triangle, Hudson Ave Studio is a dedicated space in a 3-story walk-up from the late 19th Century, rebuilt after the Great Chicago Fire of 1871. Not a lot has changed with the resources for the studio. There are two fewer amplifiers, but the addition of a PC Laptop with Adobe Audition, a 4-piece drum kit, and a 10-channel mixer, rounded out the small-scale studio to a fully digital one with analog capabilities if needed. The studio currently hosts the primary operations of Circle of 3rds, LLC.
Circle of 3rds, LLC. is a Chicago-based media publishing company, and is excited to contribute to the music world with it’s future endeavors. For more information, you may contact us here or follow us on Twitter or Facebook.
